With the reduced temperatures being experienced and ice forming on local area waterways, many folks will be looking to expand their recreational activities onto and around the ice. Be cautioned that ice that may 'look safe', may very well not be safe and be too thin for recreational purposes. With many factors affecting ice thickness and the unpredictability of water and weather conditions, there is no sure way to guarantee the safety or thickness of ice. The best way to stay safe? Stay off the ice. And just a reminder, unauthorized use of motorized vehicles is prohibited on the waterway at all times – frozen or not.
