The flatwater sport season will consist of a wide range of events taking place on the North and South Courses of the Welland International Flatwater Centre, along the Waterway, as well as the PenFinancial Credit Union Flatwater Community Centre.
From community-based initiatives to training sessions to hard-fought competitions and championships, the activities around the Welland International Flatwater Centre will continue to be a catalyst for economic benefit to local businesses and broader community engagement. More than 14,000 athletes are expected to visit Welland and race on Welland's Waterway in 2015.
On a global scale, the Welland International Flatwater Centre North Course will host three (3) international championships this season. July 11 – 14, Welland will take part in the world's third largest international multi-sport Games as Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games hosts Canoe Sprint in Welland. The Games are only surpassed in size and scope by the Olympic Summer Games and the Asian Games. Then in August, Welland will proudly host one of the largest international single sport events in the world in 2015. Attracting up to 4,000 participants from 20+ countries, Dragon Boat Niagara 2015 is a unique combination of two (2) international dragon boat racing championships together in Welland, Ontario from August 14-23, 2015: Pan American Club Crew Championships and the 2015 International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) 12th World Dragon Boat Racing Championships.
