Dragon Boat Niagara 2015 (DBN2015) was delighted to launch its Volunteer Program on Wednesday, February 25th, 5:30 – 7:30 pm, at the Welland Recreational Canal Corporation Community (WRCC) Community Office located at the Seaway Mall.
Individuals
of all ages and backgrounds joined in on the excitement and learnt more about welcoming
the world with us this summer. Appreciation of volunteers and their importance
in the community was highlighted by Mayor Frank Campion, Welland Recreational
Canal Corporation Executive Director Stephen Fischer, Executive Director of
Dragon Boat Canada Chloe Greenhalgh, and Vic Kerschl, Treasurer
of the Welland Recreational Canal Corporation Board of Directors and Dragon Boat
Niagara 2015 Steering Committee Member. The WRCC celebrated the hard work of the
2014 volunteers and their accomplishments, and announced the exciting happens
of the 2015 season with 20+ events being hosted at the Welland International Flatwater
Centre (WIFC). In particular, DBN2015 encouraged
the community to come together to once again, welcome the world to Welland this
summer.
Attracting
up to 4,000 participants from 20+ countries, DBN2015 is a unique combination of
two (2) international dragon boat racing championships together in Welland,
Ontario from August 12-23, 2015: Pan American Club Crew Championships (August
14 – 16) and the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) 12th
World Dragon Boat Racing Championships (August 18-23). DBN2015 is looking for
350 enthusiastic and passionate individuals to help host one of the largest
international single sporting events in the world in 2015. “Volunteers are the backbone
to a successful event," expressed Vic Kerschl, Treasurer
of the Welland Recreational Canal Corporation Board of Directors and Dragon Boat
Niagara 2015 Steering Committee Member. “Individuals have the opportunity to take
part in so many different ways, leading up to the event, during the competitions
as well as after the Championships."
