From Row Ontario | March 4
Another exciting event has been added to Ontario’s 2020 regatta schedule as Row Ontario announced on Wednesday that they will host the Tony Biernacki Sr. Memorial Regatta on Saturday, June 20.
Over the last 11 years, the ‘Tony B’ has become a staple of the early Summer racing calendar for Masters rowers in Ontario. Row Ontario takes over hosting duties of the regatta from Brock University Rowing, who has hosted the annual event since it’s inception.
“We are extremely excited to add another high-calibre regatta to our hosting schedule this year,” said Andrew Backer, Executive Director of Row Ontario. “The Tony B is an important event for the Ontario rowing community and Masters competitors in particular, and we thought it was very important to continue its tradition. We owe a big thank you to Brock University Rowing and Peter Somerwil for allowing Row Ontario to continue to use the Tony Biernacki Sr. name for this regatta so we can continue to honour a man who was instrumental in starting women’s rowing at the university level in Ontario.”
The regatta will continue to be hosted in Welland, Ont. and will take place on the Welland International Flatwater Centre’s North Course.
