Starting Friday, March 20th, the water levels of Welland’s Waterway will be raised to operating level by the St. Lawrence Seaway. As a result, please be cautioned that open water will be present along the shorelines. With temperatures rising, ice that may ‘look safe,’ may very well not be safe and be too thin. Ice thickness will be impacted and previously frozen areas will become thin ice. There is no sure way to guarantee the safety or thickness of ice.
