
Open Water Swimming
Open Water Swimming is the latest Olympic Sport. Most swims are between 1km and 3 km. In a standard triathlon, the swim leg in 3.8 km (2.4 miles). Marathon swimming is 10 km or more!
The pace of these races is very fast right from the start. Swimmers
jostle for position then head for the buoys. Competitive swimmers
use techniques and strategies to keep ahead of the pack. Many
open water swimmers train for triathlons and Ironman competitions.
WIFC is equipped for in-the-water race starts and judged marker finishes.
Open water swimming competitions are held on the Recreational Waterway portion of the Centre.
